Around The Grounds – Full Time

Game Day:Semi Finals

In a season that has been played in mostly dry(ish) conditions, it seems ironic that the semi-finals were today played in rain. So far this year teams have clashed in rain, wind and a wee bit of mud, however when compared to previous seasons it seems a fair conclusion to reach that teams have faced a lot drier playing conditions than in past seasons.

In the premier mens division, out at Peter Johnstone Park, the top placed Taieri side  hosted Green Island who made their first returned to the semi finals since 2002. In tough conditions it was the Taieri side that were victorious 10 – 8 over a tough Green Island side. In the other semi final at the University Oval it was University who got over the line late to grab a last second 10 – 8 win in a thrilling and tight encounter.

In the Premier Women’s grade at Hancock Park Pirates defeated Alhambra Union 44 -0 while in heavy and muddy conditions at Logan Park, University won 19 – 12 over the Waitaki Wahine.
