Looking back, the University (mens and womens), Taieri (mens) and Pirates (women) teams appear numerous times in the finals played over the last five years here in Dunedin. In 2015, Taieri, University and Pirates were the clubs represented in the mens and women’s finals.
Back in 2015, both University and Taieri played out a repeated of the 2014 final when they met at under the roof at Forsyth Barr Stadium. Twelve months on it was University who managed to turn the tables on the 2014 result by dominating both possession and territory in the second half and scoring two late tries to finish the game with a winning 31 to 15 scoreline.
Unfortunately I don’t have any images of the Women’s final that year, however it was Pirates who were once again victorious over University 31 – 13 after having a healthy 21 – 3 halftime lead.
