About Pride
The tape, the boots and the beer.
This was rugby in its purest form. With the arrival of winter and the wet greasy conditions that resulted from the wind, rain and hail that preceded Saturdays match, it was always going to be a day for the forwards. They say that rugby is a game won up front and winter playing conditions certainly test the validity of this statement here at the grassroots of the game.
Pride is a big part of what holds sides together in rugby clubs across the country, pride is part of the jersey. So when a side concedes 28 points in the first 28 minutes of a match, their pride is certainly going to be tested. That’s the position the Kaikorai side found themselves in on Saturday, 28 points down with 52 minutes left to play. Not having their line crossed or conceding any further points for the rest of the match, while posting 12 themselves, suggests there was a lot of pride left in the Kaikorai side and they weren’t giving in too easily.
In it’s purest form, rugby is played for the pride of a jersey and for a love of the game. Covered in mud and being pelted by rain, this game was all about pride. Something that both sides showed buckets of.
