Around the grounds in the Central Otago and Southern Premier competitions this afternoon Upper Clutha defeated the Cromwell Goats 22 to 21 to with the prestigious White Horse Trophy, the John Scott Memorial Trophy and the Speight’s Cup. Going into the match, the Cromwell Goats held an impressive 22 match winning streak that dated back to 2019. Victory came for the Upper Clutha side when Brady Kingan landed a penalty goal in the dying seconds to give the Rams a 22-21 win.
In the Southern Preimer competition, Lawrence was welcomed back into the competition after a 3 three break with a home match against rivals Crescent at Simpson Park. Going into halftime Crescent held a 12 – 0 lead before running in multiple tries in the final 20 minutes to win 39 to 7. In other matches, Heriot defeated Clutha Valley 24 – 18, Clutha defeated West Taieri 40 – 34 with Toko having the bye while the Owaka and Clinton match was postponed.
