I actually forgot about this series of photos I took during Sunday’s Ranfurly Shield match between Otago and Hawkes Bay. Following last years unbeaten campaign, the Otago Spirit marched around the ground with their championship trophy at halftime. I meant to go back and process these photos later after the game, but I completely forgot about them until a message popped up this afternoon. FYI – if you’re following the Spirit (and you should!) their next match is against Wellington on Sunday 18th October, 12:05pm

This is the Eels as they arrived at Forysth Barr after warming up across the road at the University Oval. I remember thinking at the time, they look like they mean business. Then, 1 minute into the match after University had hardly touched the ball Taieri’s Kori Rupene bumped off two tacklers to put his side up 5 nil after winger Marc Rooney put him into space. 39 minutes later, Taieri had piled on 33 points and held a 21 point lead with 40 minutes left in the season. http://tapebootsandbeer.com @tapebootsandbeer
Here’s another set of images of Saturday’s final at Forsyth Barr Stadium. This was a fantastic game with the Dunedin Makos scoring with 5 minutes to go. University was leading 23 – 22 as Dunedin worked it’s way down field before scoring through a forward drive. The Mako’s win meant it claimed the Colts banner two years in a row, something that’s very tough to do. http://tapebootsandbeer.com @tapebootsandbeer
Dunedin Makos halfback Devon Olliver was a happy man on Saturday afternoon at Forsyth Barr Stadium and he had every reason to be. His side managed to come from behind late in the match to win the Premier Colts title win a 29 – 23 win over University Blue. Here, he is seen celebrating with his Mako’s team mates after the final whistle at Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin. Saturday 19th September, 2020. http://tapebootsandbeer.com @tapebootsandbeer
