The Southern Magpies have won the 2022 Preimer banner with a 26 to 20 win over the Taieri Eels at Forsyth Barr Stadium this afternoon. The victory, in front of a large crowd came in the final 5 minutes of the match when Southern centre Mackenzie Haugh put in a chip, regathered and beat several tacklers before setting up flanker Jordan Dwight to score.

Todays win is Southern’s first Premier banner since 2017 and the 22nd in the clubs history. Southern previously won the banner in 1904, 1912, 1915, 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1947, 1960, 1969, 1972, 1975, 1977, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1985, 1989, 2007, 2017.
