The Saturday Wrap
Around the grounds in premier matches this afternoon, Zingari Richmond secured a win for Chris Bell in his 272 (breaking the Otago appearance record) game for the club and also the Grace Mills Trophy with a 21 – 20 win over Alhambra Union in wet and gloomy conditions at the North Ground. Heading into the last ten minutes Zingari held a 15 to 13 lead when a Shaun Driver penalty put the Dragons further in front 18 to 13. The Broncos then grabbed the lead back with a converted try to take a 20 to 18 lead heading into the final few minutes. It was then Zingari’s turn to take back the lead with another successful penalty which looked to have won the game for the Dragons until Alhambra Union won a penalty which looked very kickable for first five Levi Emery. However, his attempt bounced off the upright and over the dead ball line, starting the celebrations for the Zingari side.
At Bathgate Park Taieri won the Roy Nieper Trophy with a 22 to 10 win over Southern while at Watson Park Kaikorai were 22 to 17 winners over Harbour and at the University Oval Dunedin defeated Otago University by 18 points to 16.
