University scored 29 unanswered points against Green Island this afternoon at Logan Park to claim their second win of the season.

The Green Island side started strongly and made the most of having the wind at their back to build an early lead against the students. Looking for their first win of the season, the Green Island side made the most of their opportunities to take an 18 to 3 lead.

A series of penalties late in the first half put the University side deep in the Green Island half before the student forward pack drove over the line to score. Leading 18 to 8 at halftime. The second half started with the University side playing the game at pace and moved the ball wide to space at every opportunity. After taking the lead, then extending it to 27 to 18, the margin increased when University hooker Rick Jackson scored extend the lead out to 32 – 18. Green Island scored a late try to left wing Michael Manson, before the final whistle came, giving University a 32 – 23 victory.

Around the grounds in other Premier matches this afternoon, Taieri claimed the Henderson Memorial and the Speight’s Challenge Shield with a 21 – 20 victory over Harbour at Watson Park. Alhambra Union defeated Southern 24 – 12 at the North Ground while Kaikorai defeated Zingari Richmond to win the Tom Watkins Memorial at Bishopscourt 41 – 0.

In Premier Women’s competition, Pirates ran out 29 to 7 winners over Alhambra Union at Opoho while at Logan Park and University defeated Green Island 99 – 10.
