Nelson College South Island Champions
Nelson College 1st XV have won the New Zealand Secondary Schools South Island 1st XV Championship with a 28 – 26 win over Otago Boys High School 1st XV at Littlebourne this afternoon.
In warm and fine conditions, Otago Boys dominated most of the first half but found themselves 14 – 12 behind at halftime due to Nelson College scoring right before the break. In the second half, Nelson College extended it’s lead to 28 to 19 before Otago Boys prop Tevita Pole scored and the conversion made it 28 – 26 with 15 minutes to play.
In the closing 10 minutes, Otago Boys had a number of drives for the line but couldn’t break the Nelson College defence.
The 28 – 26 win for Nelson College wins them the South Island title and a spot in the National Top Four tournament held in Palmerston North.
