Shield Stays In Otago
Otago have retained the Ranfurly Shield by beating Southland at Forsyth Barr Stadium this afternoon.
In Otago’s third defence of the Shield in it’s current reign, the holders went into half time with a 17 to 3 lead over the Southland Stags after scoring right on halftime with a try to flanker Slade McDowell.
Second half tries to Jona Nareki, Dylan Nel, Josh Dickson and Rowan Gouws ensured Otago extended it’s lead in the second half to end the match victorious with a 41 to 22 win over their neighbours Southland to retain the Ranfurly Shield.
Otago’s next defence of the Ranfurly Shield will be against Manawatu on Friday, 30th August.
